It was a
beautiful day for the Scorpions. In the morning the
Scorpions told Federal President Johannes Rau in Berlin that they will
work together with the Berlin
Philharmonic Orchestra on the Official Expo Hymn, "Moment
Of Glory." In the evening they experienced a moment of fame in the
Expo Cafe where the City's Culture Prize of
this year was lent to the Scorpions.
Hanover's "Freundeskreis" awarded the prize with 10.000 Marks
for the sixth time. The
Scorpions wanted to donate the cash to the International School
in Hanover. Klaus Meine said, "This prize has a special value for us,
finally we have our roots in Hanover."
Erwin Schuetterle, the Chairman of the
Jury said that the Scorpions are tolerant citizens of the world who are
Ambassadors of Hanover around the globe and
have remained faithful to their hometown
for 28 years. With the Award of the City Culture Prize to the musicians,
the association wants to make it clear that city culture does not
automatically mean theaters, Mozart or
Marschner, even if the Opera Director is
our new Chairman. Hans-Peter Lehmann was selected briefly before the
Award to the Successor of the past Chairman
Klaus Goehrmann. |

"Moment
Of Glory" will be the official hymn of the EXPO 2000 in Hanover,
performed by the Scorpions. The world exposition is an enormously
large cultural event which includes 10,000
meetings. Under the slogan, "Worlds
Meet One Another" there are rock and pop shows, theater performance
under the 20-hour "Faust"
production of Peter Stein, dance festivals and late night
pyrotechnic shows. The front row chairs of Castle Bellevue in Berlin
were reserved for individuals that would
not ordinarily sit next to each other.
Federal President Johannes Rau and his spouse Christina sit with the
Scorpions. The President had invited the
Hanover rock musicians into his Government
office because they are EXPO Ambassadors. To thank the President
for the invitation, Klaus informs them that
the Scorpions and the Orchestra will
compose "Moment Of Glory" especially for the EXPO hymn. Meine
said it is a mixture of a ballad
and a Bolero of Ravel. Expo General Instructor Birgit
Breuel, Managing Director Reinhard Volk and other representative of
the Expo society along with the President
were able to hear hymn. The project
will be finished in the middle of March in Vienna and Berlin. In
April the public will be able to hear the
arrangement. |

- The Scorpions want to record the first song with the Berlin Philharmonic
Orchestra in April 2000. In an interview Klaus Meine said, "We
look forward to this project with one the
best orchestras in the world." In the
meantime, the band is rehearsing their part in a Vienna studio.
Last autumn the project had been
surprisingly called off by Elmar Weingarten, the
orchestra's director. This occurred because director Weingarten's Cross
Over projects basically, critically opposed
it. Nevertheless, the project now
continues after the Citizen of Berlin Culture Senator, Peter Radunski
intervened. Klaus Meine said, "Now all
discrepancies are vacated from the way."
"With Austrian, Christian Kolonovits
we have found an Arranger, which is both worlds
at home," said Klaus Meine. He also added that, "For the EXPO
Concert the band has authored
classic and new arrangements with the Orchestra." The CD
is to be available in June. "The
appearance in November at the Brandenburger Gate was a small sample of
the EXPO concert," said Klaus Meine.
At the tenth anniversary of the wall it was
the Scorpions as well as the Russian Cellist, Mstislaw Rostropowitsh and
160 Cellists from all over the world. |
